Awareness day: M.Sc. Nursing 1st Year students of Child Health Nursing speciality displayed “The Essential Components of Neonatal Care” on the notice board to disseminate the information and mark the beginning of National Newborn Week celebration 2016
Day two started with the inaugural ceremony, Professor Sunit C. Singhi, HOD, Dept of Pediatrics, and Dr. Baljeet Maini, Professor, Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Mullana, Ambala graced the Inaugural Ceremony.
Prof. Sunit C. Singhi, HOD, Dept of Pediatrics, Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Mullana, Ambala addressed the gathering by calling the participants as the champions of neonatal care and their presence ensures quality care and survival of the neonates. He expressed concern over India being the highest contributor to neonatal mortality. He emphasized that nurses are the backbone of every neonatal care enterprise.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Baljeet Maini, presented an Expert Talk on “Quality in Neonatal Care”. He highlighted that compassionate nursing care is the base of newborn care and survival. He also mentioned that lack of quality care is attributed lack of excellence in nursing as comparred to global standards and we still need to work hard to raise the standards.
On the same day Poster Competition was held on “Immediate Newborn Care” and Speech Competition was also held on “Human Milk Banking and its Importance”/ “Importance of Breastfeeding Counselling”. Results were announced and the winners were awarded.
At the end, Vote of thanks was extended to all the dignitaries and delegates.
On day three Quiz Competition was held from 9:30am -10:30am on “Neonatal Disorders”. Students of B.Sc Nursing 3rd Year, 4th Year and Post Basic B.Sc 1st Year participated in Quiz Competition.
The programme ended with Vote of Thanks and distribution of the prizes and certificates to the winners of Quiz competition.
On day 4 health education program was organized. Public was educated by M. Sc Nursing 1st Year and B.Sc Nursing 3rd Year students on the topic “Neonatal Care in Home and Identification of Danger signs in Neonates” through role play and health talk to postnatal mothers.
The workshop started at 10:00am with the welcome, introduction of participants.

Sessions on Care of Normal Baby at Birth and Thermal Protection, Feeding of Normal and Low Birth Weight Babies, Initial Steps in Resuscitation and Bag and Mask Ventilation.
Following this hands-on/workstations were organized.
The workshop ended with post-test and Vote of Thanks.
